This photo was taken a couple years ago at one of my birthday galas in New York City. Also in the picture is Mark Canup, another close childhood friend. He was also an important part of Mike's life. The three of us were real lady killers....

As Mike's older brother, let me tell you a little bit about the friendship between Ryan Dawson and MIchael Simanoff. You could not find two people more seemingly mismatched as friends -- it was like The Odd Couple: The Next Generation. Ryan was a perfectly-ironed polo shirt, while Mike was any t-shirt he found lying around his room. But appearances were deceiving: Mike and Ryan were such good friends they could practically finish each other's sentences. They were inseparable. They were always doing something, creating something -- or up to something that their parents would be aghast to learn about.
Their friendship was not supposed to end this way.
I was one of Mike's NYC friends. I remember Mike invited me once to one of Ryan's parties held at an Upper East Side bar - I think it was called the Raccoon Lodge? It was karaoke night! It was alot of fun. Mike was very fun to drink with - once at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria, Queens, a group of us put our cell phones on the table and declared that the person whose phone rang first would get a free beer. Mike's phone rang first of course - we tried to disqualify it because the phone was on vibrate and his ringer was off, but of course Mike wasn't buying that excuse (Trixie might remember that). Wow I miss Mike.
Ha - I do remember that! I also remember once when Mike left his cell phone unattended and answered it, saying 'Mike's Answering Service.' I don't remember who was on the other end - but hello. I think we were at Le vol de nuit, another of Mike's favorite bars, but I can't remember. - Kristine
